Rushing to Get Home
A Moment in Time
I recently completed this work based off of some photographs I took in the small park near my old place in Lakewood along Lake Erie. It was an unseasonably warm October day, and a storm was brewing. Spotted in the distance was a lone jet skier, who was rushing to get back to Edgewater Beach where the jet skis are moored.
I found the cloud formations and reflections on the lake fascinating. Sure enough, about 15 minutes later, a very severe storm came through.
As a painter, we’re always on the look out for those fleeting moments; if a landscape painter, to give the viewer the perspective of a moment in time that may or may not ever transpire in exactly the same way. Or a portrait painter’s aim is to convey the sitter’s emotion during a particular day or period of that person’s life, one that may turn out to be a temporary, but nonetheless enshrined in canvas for posterity.
Whether you are a painter or just a lover of art, look out for those moments, and capture them on canvas, in photographs or simply your heart.
